Max Mikelson is an artist who is both inspired by his daily hustle and relationships as a sex worker and the ephemeral concepts of revolution, sexuality, and aliens. He teaches kids at the middle school he grew up at. His belief is that in portraying sex work, as a justified profession, then they will be able to push for better working conditions, physical safety, and racial/gender equality. Mikelson’s works are based in acrylics, inks, clay, and 3d prints. He creates varied pieces that protrude from the canvas with a combination of all of these mediums. The artist juxtaposes realism with symbolic and ethereal imagery to demonstrate the relationship between the natural and supernatural.
